FAQs - General

Registration

When does registration open?

Spring: Registration for Spring opens November 1 and closes December 31.  There are discounted fees for registration between November 1 and November 30.

Fall Ball: Registration for Fall opens at the beginning of June and closes mid-July.

Registration will be open until we reach our registration closing date or league capacity (whichever comes first). At that time, a wait list will begin; Players on the wait list will be contacted if an opening occurs. Late registrations are subject to space availability in your child's age group.

Will I get a registration confirmation?
You should receive a confirmation email from the online registration system within a day or two of registering.  If you do not, or if you have other questions, contact our Registration Coordinator.

Why does registration occur so far in advance?
There is a lot of planning and preparation that goes into properly getting enough volunteer managers, setting up all the divisions and teams, reserving fields and scheduling practices and games. Tryouts in many divisions have to take place, then rosters have to be set, uniforms/equipment have to be ordered and schedules have to be made. Many other things go on behind the scenes to make the Little League experience a great one for everyone involved. It is a lot of work and the board members do all this on a volunteer basis - nobody gets paid!  The further in advance we know how many kids will be playing in each division the sooner we can get teams formed and players notified of their team and practice schedule.

Can I get a refund?
There is a $25.00 non-refundable processing fee on all applicants who withdraw from 4SRLL prior to January 15 of the applicable Spring season and prior to August 15 of the applicable Fall season.  After January 15, for the Spring season, and August 15 for the Fall Season there are no refunds for any reason and fees are not able to be applied to a future season if a player withdraws from the current season.  There are no refunds for injury.

Can girls play in little league?
Yes! 4SRLL is for both boys and girls. We encourage girls to sign-up and be a part of the fun! If girls are interested in softball, please visit www.4ssoftball.com.

My child is [x] years old, but I am being told the league age is not the same, why?
Your player’s league age is determined by the Little League Baseball® .  The age determination date for a Little League Baseball player is the actual age of a child as of August 31 of the current year. You can check your child's league age here.

I am told that I lie outside of 4SRLL boundaries and need to play with another league, can you change this
Little League boundaries are determined by Little League International and are outside the control of 4SRLL.  While we would love to have everyone play in our league, however, only those that live or attend school within our boundaries will be permitted to play for 4SRLL.  The surrounding Little Leagues are excellent, so if you are within their boundaries I am sure you will have a great experience.  You can check your league here.

Tryouts (Spring only), Draft, Team Formation and Games

What do players bring to tryouts?  All players should bring their glove & wear gym shoes or cleats.  If they have a Little League approved bat and helmet they should bring this as well. The league will have helmets and a few bats available for tryouts.

When are tryouts?
Typically in mid-January on a Saturday (Friday night for the Juniors division).  The date will be communicated when it is finalized. Attendance at tryouts is mandatory for anyone interested in playing in the Juniors, Majors, AAA or AA divisions.  There are NO tryouts for Little Sluggers, T-ball or A divisions.
There are no tryouts for Fall ball

What is a draft and how does it work?
The draft is a process where the goal is to attain parity among teams for AA, AAA, Majors and Juniors divisions. Based on player tryouts and evaluations, the managers do their best to select players in the order of judged skill and ability. Pursuant to Little League rules, the player selection draft is conducted confidentially: “Players and parents will not be told the position in which they were drafted.” Discussion of what occurs in the “draft room” is strictly prohibited.

We are only available to play/practice on [x] and [y] nights at certain times, can we get put on a team that only practices/has games when we are available?
With over 600 kids and 50 teams working within a limited space allotment it is simply impossible for us to have a set schedule for any team.  Practice dates/times as well as games are variable throughout the season. Generally our L/S, T-ball and Single A divisions will have a game (or practice before games begin) on Saturday and one practice during the week.  The upper divisions are significantly more variable.

When does the season start?
Spring: Practices start in early February. Games start in early March and last until mid-May.
Fall Ball: Practices start at the end of August. Game start in September and end in mid-November.

When will I hear from my coach?

Spring: Drafts and team assignments for all divisions will be in mid-late January (after tryouts). Managers will begin contacting players soon thereafter.
Fall: Manager will contact players by the end of August

Can I request a friend?
For the lower divisions (Little Sluggers, T-ball and A), absolutely. For the draft divisions (Juniors, Majors, AAA, and AA), no.

Can I request a coach?
For the lower divisions (Little Sluggers, T-ball and A), yes. For the draft divisions (Majors, AAA, and AA), no.  You can also let a particular coach know you are interested in being on his/her team.

How many times/week are games & practices?
Spring: That is up to your coach as well as dependent on field availability.  The length of each practice and the number of practices and games increases with each level. Typically with Little Sluggers, T-ball and Single A, there is one practice and game per week for 1 - 1.5 hours. At the AA, AAA and Majors level, there could be as many as 3 practices or games per week at 2 hours or more each. The team manager will provide the practice and game schedules for each team.  We do NOT practice or play on Sundays.

Fall: One practice a week at the discretion of the manager regarding date and time.  There will be one game each Saturday.

What times are practices/why are they so early/late?
Practices will generally start no earlier than 4:30 during the week.  Practices typically last 1 to 1.5 hours. The latest practice will be finished by 9:30.  Managers select practice slots based on the manager’s availability and field availability.  We try to have the younger kids practicing earlier in the evening and the older kids later in the evening.  We recognize the difficulties with early practices as well as practices that finish late and we try to do the best we can within the field limitation we have.  We do NOT practice or play on Sundays.

What equipment do I need to provide?
The league will provide a jersey, cap, socks and belt. The league also has helmets available  You will need to provide a fielding glove, pants (color determined by team manager) and an athletic supporter and cup for boys. Optional items include a bat (if you don’t have one you will need to borrow from a teammate), batting gloves, helmet (league has helmets available), cleats.

Do I need cleats?
No, you do not need cleats.  The choice is up to you. Metal cleats are NOT allowed on the turf fields.

When do we get our uniforms?
They will be provided as soon as we are able to get them, likely the week of opening day in the Spring and before the first game in the Fall.  Your manager will be responsible for ensuring the team receives their uniforms, hats, belts and socks.

League Information

When is Opening Day (Spring only) and what happens on that day?
Opening Day Ceremonies will be held in late February/early March on a Friday evening (February 29, 2020, for example). We will have food vendors and various activities on-going in connection with the evening, which will be communicated within a few weeks of the date. Our ceremony will take place on at the 4S Community Park.  The primary focus of the ceremony will be the parade of teams. We will make every effort to be completed at a reasonable hour, recognizing Opening Day games are the following day.

How do I get notified of league information?
General league information is provided on this website. We suggest you also "LIKE" our Facebook Fan page and "FOLLOW" us on Twitter to keep up with all the latest news from 4SRLL.

Where can I find a glove, hat, bat, chair, etc. that I left at the field?
You can check the County garage located by the hockey rink/tennis courts/basketball courts.  The league does NOT maintain a lost and found.

What happens if it rains?
You will get wet.
The league makes every effort to play games, even if it is raining, given the limited space availability and the fact tat most games are played on turf.  The turf fields will never be closed and game cancellations for the turf fields will only occur if there is a safety concern. Your team manager will let you know if a game is cancelled, but in the vast majority of cases the game will be played as it is very difficult to re-schedule a missed game.

Why do we need to share the fields?
Our facilities are some of the best in the county and therefore are in high demand by a number of organizations.

Can I chew gum and eat sunflower seeds on the turf?
No.  The rules for the 4S Sports Park turf fields are:  no metal spikes, no food, gum, sunflower seeds, nuts or sports drinks, WATER only

Can I have a beer or a cigarette at the game?
Alcohol and tobacco are NOT permitted at Little League events.

Who do I talk to if I have concerns?
4SRLL wants to ensure that each family will have an opportunity to address any concern.  The league asks that you first address concerns with your manager. If you would like to address concerns with a league official, your first point of contact should be the Player Agent of your respective division.  The contact information can be found under our Board of Directors link.

The registration fee(s) for my player(s) would represent a financial hardship for me.  Is financial assistance available?
Yes. Please contact us with your request.
